Nuclear Fuel Complex undertakes various projects to cater to its present and future requirements in order to meet the vision of DAE. Out of the many vision schemes of Department of Atomic energy, NFC has undertaken various projects for meeting first stage of Indian Nuclear Power Program with a vision of adding electrical power generation capacity and Fast reactors & back end fuel cycle for the 2nd stage of Indian Nuclear Power Program with a vision of power generation from fast reactors and creating matching fuel cycle facilities.
Nuclear Fuel Complex is executing both Green Field & Brown Field Projects. Under this NFC is taking up various projects:
- For capacity augmentation of existing plants
- For Process modernization
- For Technology development
- For creating infrastructure
- For waste management
- For safety & health
- For Quality & Inspection
In NFC, a project proposal is reviewed thoroughly by internal committees and NFC, Board and further put up to Vision Sub-committee and Project Review Committee of DAE for their review & approval before forwarding it to the ministry for financial sanction. The projects taken up by NFC, complies with all necessary statutory clearances such as Environmental, State Pollution Board, Wild Life / Costal Zones, Safety & Regulatory authorities etc.
These projects involve a) procurement of specialized equipment such as: Pilger mills, Extrusion Press, Forge Press, Heat Treatment Furnaces, Electron Beam Welding Machines, CNC machines, UT inspection machines, ROTA, Rotary / Hydraulic Presses etc., (b) Revamping / setting up Ventilation systems both primary & secondary, (c) Civil structural & PEB works for construction of storage sheds or setting up of new facility, (d) Excavation & rock cutting for site grading activities, (e) Electrical works both HT & LT, (f) Instrumentation works, (g) Setting up of process Control systems like SCADA & PLC, (h) Automation and customization of existing processes and equipment and procurement of various type of material handling equipment.
